Time
for romance. Christmas, Valentine’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries, or
anytime you want to tell her that you love her, few gifts are
more personal than perfume. But how do you match the fragrance
with the woman? We’re here to help guide you through perfume terminology
and classifications, and we’ll give you descriptions of some of
the most popular perfumes.
A woman’s perfume ought to match her
personality. Therefore, first think of four or five words that
best describe the woman for whom you’re shopping, and find the best match
for those words in the Categories of Scents section.
When
you’ve decided which category of perfume is the best match, consult my
descriptions of the most popular perfumes in the
POPULAR PERFUMES BY CATEGORY
chart. I’ve separated
the most popular perfumes by scent category to make your search more convenient.
If you’re still unsure what to pick after trying
them out, here’s my advice: you cannot go wrong with any of the
perfumes found in my CLASSICS
section. Chanel No. 5. ought to
be a part of every woman’s fragrance inventory. I also love the
original Coty perfumes because Francois Coty was the man who
introduced perfume to the middle class and his fragrances are timeless. (And I like the bottles.)
The price of a perfume is
determined by the saturation of the oils and alcohol, with the highest concentration of oils being the most expensive. The
concentration of oils does not change the perfume’s smell, so eau
de parfum will smell the same as eau de toilette. The amount of
oils affects a perfume’s wearing and storing longevity. Read more in the
USAGE TIPS
section.
